Did You Notice the Cameo of Gundam on This Week’s True Detective?

Who doesn’t know about Gundam? There is no doubt that quite a lot of people know nothing about Gundam show and could careless about it. However, I cannot be careless since I’m in love with Gundam model kits. I know that out there, there are also fans of Mobile Suit Gundam who can’t help but feeling excited in the mentioning of best Gundam franchise series not just limited to the Gundam model kits. Gundam might not be the most famous franchise in the world but it’s certainly notable by quite a lot of people including me who can’t stop fidgeting every time I see my Gundam model kits.

best gundam model kit series ever making a cameo

I become excited when I saw second episode of True Detective, a series about crimes and detective aired in HBO every week. While the episode was filled with odd nuances as well as the subtle clues, my eyes were sealed on something. I saw one of the High Grade Universal Century Gundam model kits in this particular episode. Yes, it’s definitely the HGUC Gundam model kits. In the second episode of True Detective, the actor Collin Farrell acted as detective Ray Velcoro who arrived at a particular scene while carrying a gift. The gift was one of the 1/144th scale High Grade Universal Century Gundam model kit of the Jagd Doga mobile suit from the movie Char's Counterattack.

It was a fun thing to see one of the high grade Gundam model kits making a cameo in a TV series not related to anime or even produced by Japanese television. Although that the appearance of one from many high grade Gundam model kits is something considerably good and weird at the same time, it cannot be said as the first ever cameo of anime figurines cameo. Before one of HGUC Gundam model kits making an appearance, one of the mass produced Evangelion figure made an appearance in a drama titles One Hour Photo with Robin Williams as one of the actors.

Well, the high grade Gundam model kits are certainly something especially when making appearance in a TV series or movies not related to Japanese broadcast networks. The appearance of one amongst high grade Gundam plastic model certainly raises questions as well. I’ve been trying to figure out the reason behind the cameo. Is it because of the fame of Mobile Suit Gundam series? Is it because an old Gundam model kits HGUC 1/144 MSN-03 Jagd Doga chosen randomly or because of particular reason? Or maybe, Colin Farrell is secretly a fan of Gundam franchise?
